My DVD Collection

My best friend makes fun of me for my physical media collection (hi Katie) -- so what am I gonna do? That's right, catalogue all my physical media!! Just like my comic collection, just a little different. Now, I haven't watched all of these yet, but these are all movies and shows I own on DVD or Blu-Ray! Stay tuned for my books, games, and CDs eventually, AND thumbnails for the covers down the line too! Most of the anime are currently able to be clicked on, to see the full cover art. I think it's important to preserve that stuff.

This is a great, short, episodic show about a woman ronin and her bumbling martial artist tag-along friend going around righting wrongs and drinking all the sake in feudal Japan.

Dir. Mamoru HosodaMusical, science fiction, anime
Haven't seen yet! Because I know it'll make me cry, Hosoda always makes me cry.

The Land Before Time  (1988)
Dir. Don BluthAdventure, family, animation
This tagline is wild. "The adventure that started it all." Do they mean the slew of ensuing sequels? Or do they mean the concept of fiction as a whole?
The Secret of NIMH  (1982)
Dir. Don BluthFantasy, adventure, animation
Don't be fooled by the cutesy cover art; this movie is wonderfully dark and a little scary. Kids need more danger in their media, Don Bluth wasn't afraid to challenge competitor Disney's kid-friendly approach.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Vol. 2  (2003)
Dir. Genndy TartakovskyScience fiction, action, animation
General Grievous is so fucking scary in this show man, I'll never not be mad that ROTS and 3D Clone Wars turned him into such a little bitch.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury  (2004)
Dir. Peter ChungScience fiction, action, animation
Haven't seen yet! But Pitch Black rules so I'm hoping this will be cool too.
The Last Unicorn  (1982)
Dir. Arthur Rankin, Jr., Jules BassFantasy, adventure, animation, family
Just like The Secret of NIMH, don't let the bright colors and rainbows fool you; this movie is sad and bleak and wonderful and I adore it. If you wanna think about death and get sad, this is the magical unicorn movie for you.

The Dark Crystal  (1982)
Dir. Jim HensonFantasy, adventure
MirrorMask  (2005)
Dir. Dave McKeanFantasy, adventure
Don't sleep on this movie just because it's written by Neil Gaiman. It's directed by his artistic collaborator Dave McKean, and it's a gorgeous dreamlike film that looks like a 90's PC game, like if Myst got a movie.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow  (2004)
Dir. Kerry ConranAdventure, science fiction
This movie is so damn fun. Basically Jude Law as Indiana Jones, this is the first movie fully done with actors on a green screen with digital sets, and it actually looks good and fun instead of being stiff like a lot of shots in the Star Wars prequels.
Big Trouble in Little China  (1986)

I really like what this movie and Alien: Covenant are trying to do. It kills me that we'll probably never get a proper sequel to Covenant to wrap up David's story.
Reign of Fire  (2002)
Dir. Rob BowmanFantasy, action, drama
This movie kicks ass. Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey fighting dragons in post-apocalyptic England, played completely seriously.
